PRESS RELEASE - UPDATE ON CONSTRUCTION UPGRADE AT THE NEW COPPERBELT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) has for the past few years been engaged in major infrastructure development projects to upgrade the four international airports namely Kenneth Kaunda, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula and Mfuwe. These infrastructure development projects were embarked on to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic, cargo volumes and passenger numbers.
The on-going work at the new greenfield international airport in Ndola is at a cost of US$397 million. The design and construction of airport infrastructure at the Copperbelt International Airport was awarded to Avic International Holding Corporation.
The current construction progress at CIA is as follows:

The overall completion is at 58% and the scheduled completion date is October 2020.
- The airport will have a capacity of 1 million passengers per annum. The Terminal Building will include three aero bridges.
- Other facilities include a 50 roomed luxury hotel, a new Fire and Rescue Service Station, a Cargo Terminal, Aircraft Maintenance Hangar and an Airport Fuel Farm.

Zambia Airports Corporation Limited was established in 1989 through the amendment of the Aviation Act, Chapter 444 of the Laws of Zambia which has been repealed and replaced by the Aviation Act No. 5 of 2016. It is also incorporated under the Companies Act Chapter 388 of the Laws of Zambia.
The Corporation’s mandate is to develop, maintain and manage the four designated international airports, namely Kenneth Kaunda in Lusaka, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe in Ndola, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula in Livingstone and Mfuwe and three Strategic and seven provincial aerodromes and the provision of Air Navigation services within the Zambian Airspace.
