PRESS STATEMENT HARRY MWAANGA NKUMBULA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT PREPS FOR AVIATION EMERGENCY FRIDAY, 16TH FEBRUARY 2024

  Feb 16, 2024   admin

Safety and security are of the utmost importance in the aviation industry which is why Zambia Airports Corporation Limited regularly conducts drills for unsuspecting operators, stakeholders and emergency personal.

The mock exercise is part of the requirements by the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority (ZCAA) and within the provisions of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). It is required that a real time exercise based on a credible scenario is held to test the response system and preparedness at the airport as well as the first and second responders.

The overall objective is to prevent fatalities and injuries as well as to reduce damage to infrastructure and equipment while also protecting the environment and community in addition to accelerating the resumption of normal operations.

As per international aviation regulatory requirement, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport was today tested through an Emergency Mock Exercise that simulated a real eventuality involving a communicable disease.

It is important to note that there was no actual threat, and the general public was not at any risk. These training exercises are held to ensure that all agencies are prepared and equipped to respond to real emergencies should they occur. ZACL’s number one priority as always is to ensure safety.
