LEGAL OFFICER (Head Office, Lusaka)
The Legal Officer is responsible for providing support and assistance to the Legal Counsel in the processes aimed at minimising and securing the Corporations Legal interests such as contract drafting and reviews, as well as dispute resolution in the Supreme Court, High Court, Industrial Relations Court and all Arbitral and Mediation proceedings.
Key Performance Areas
- Providing support to the department when required, in preparation of departmental/corporate strategy.
- Represent the Corporation in civil litigation matters to safeguard its interests and ensure effective legal representation.
- Provide legal advice and opinions to various departments within the Corporation on a wide range of legal issues to support sound decision-making.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and finalise contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to protect the Corporation’s interests and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
- Lead and coordinate contract management meetings, ensuring that action points are tracked and followed up in a timely manner on behalf of the Legal Department.
- Assist in the development and review of policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise and coordinate with external legal counsel on litigation and other legal matters involving the Corporation, ensuring effective management of outsourced legal services.
- Oversee the perfection of securities, mortgages, and other security instruments to secure the Corporation’s interests.
- Manage the execution of legal documents and ensure their timely and proper entry into force.
- Support the Corporation Secretary in delegated legal and administrative duties, contributing to effective corporate governance.
- Supervise and provide guidance to designated subordinates within the legal team, ensuring quality work output and professional development.
- Proactively manage and monitor a portfolio of approximately 15 active litigation cases annually, while working to mitigate and prevent additional legal disputes through sound legal risk management
Qualification
- Full Grade 12 certificate with 5 O’ level credits including English and Mathematics
- Bachelor of laws Degree (LLB)
- Must have valid Law Practicing Certificate
- Must have valid driving licence
Experience
- Admission to the Zambian Bar with at least 3 years practical work experience
Professional Membership
- Must be a member of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ)
